C.A.M.E.O. (Caring Authors Mentoring Each Other)
was founded in the
mid-80’s in Omaha, Nebraska, by a group of eclectic writers headed by
romance enthusiasts. Since becoming an official chapter of Romance
Writers of America in the early 90’s, they have devoted their monthly
meetings to the promotion of the romance genre, welcoming new writers as
well as published authors. Their comfortable, friendly atmosphere
fosters RWA’s philosophy of supporting and encouraging one another in
the serious pursuit of a career in the romance industry.
Current members are writing in several sub-genres, including Romantic
Suspense, Historical, Inspirational, Paranormal, Young Adult and even
screenwriting.
Breaking RWA National and member news items are shared on a closed
e-mail list. Members post Works-in-Progress to a closed on-line Critique
List for feedback that motivates one and all to “keep writing in the
midst of life’s busy-ness.”
The succinct business meetings and member updates are followed by
member-directed programs. Field trips, an annual fall weekend retreat, a
“Page-Count Contest” and the annual Chapter “Storyteller Award” are
among the enthusiastic group’s other activities. RWA National
members-in-good-standing can join C.A.M.E.O for $20/year. The chapter
invites you to come and experience the fun that is C.A.M.E.O.’s
trademark.
