CAMEO, RWA Chapter
123 Presents the Online Classes for 2009
April: Is
Hollywood Calling?
Just because we
can write books doesn’t mean we can write screenplays. Based on my
popular 8 part newsletter article Is Hollywood Calling? Is a quick and
dirty month long course on the differences between writing books and
writing scripts; and how writing a screenplay can help improve your
novel writing. Cindy Carroll will be your instructor.
May: From Idea
to Free-Flow to Micro-Editing Examine
your storytelling process from start to finish. Whether you are a total
newbie or an author of 30 novels, you can find tricks and processes that
will challenge and freshen your productivity. No one wants to be a
forgettable copycat. A change of approach to every aspect of your
fiction writing may just be the spark you need at this moment in time.
Take the journey with Sally Walker in examining eight steps in
creativity.
August: Spells of Unsticking:
Blocked? Or
just frustrated in your writing life? Emily Alward will help, when the
words won’t come at all, or if you’re writing but it feels like trying
to swim through molasses, maybe this class can help. ‘Blocks’ are real
hazards in a writer’s life, but they aren’t all alike, nor do they all
yield to the same solutions. In this class we take a look at the
different kinds of roadblocks that may occur along a writer’s path and
present some exercises for dealing with each type of problem. We’ll
discuss some non-standard ways to plot or structure your story (help for
pantsters!) Finally there will be a sample of actual Spells of
Unsticking—freewriting exercises that can spark ideas, and serve as
scenes to plug right into your work-in-progress.
July: RWA
National Conference Washington D.C.
September: Take
a Walk on the Dark Side:
Criminal
characteristics-How to make your criminal real from sociopaths to
psychopaths to white collar crimes. Dr. Cynthia Lea Clark will guide you
through the characteristics of the criminal mind.
October: Mind
of the Killer-
a more intimate
look at the inner most workings of a killer, Dr. Cynthia Lea Clark will
take you on a journey through the mind that kills. This class does
contain graphic descriptions from the interviews Dr. Clark did with
Serial Killers.
November:
Writing Hot, Delicious Love Scenes
with
Nicole North as your instructor. Do the love
scenes or sex scenes in your romance novel lack that magical spark
and sizzling heat that makes the reader go WHEW!!? The romance genre has
exploded with bonfire-hot romance and erotic romance novels and novellas
over the last few years. In this workshop we'll explore the many aspects
of fantastic, hot and delicious love scenes, whether you write mildly
sensual romance or erotic romance. We'll look at the best ways of
writing those all-important love scenes that take your characters to the
next level of their relationship.
Please note: this workshop does not deal with pure erotica or
alternative lifestyles. The lessons and examples contain graphic
language and frank discussions of sexuality. You must be 18 or over to
take this workshop.
December: Happy
Holidays!
